The illuminance equals 1 lx when a 1 lumen light flux falls evenly onto a 1 m² surface.
Low light levels, as well as excessive illuminance, negatively impact the body, decrease attention and reaction speed, and lowers productivity. A luxmeter is used to control local illuminance.
